Beginner's confusion with basic mapping

Please bear in mind I am an absolute beginner but I cannot understand where to find anyone with minimal experience in this, I do not even know the name of the language used for mapping. Does anyone have the patience to explain this? :(

How about you start with my handy video series to learn all about data manipulation in Make? That would be a good start.
