I’ve got a scenario here where I got to assistant;
- Extracting meta data from report
- Summarizes tables, graph and figures in a report
Just wondering what the upload a file module from OpenAI does and if it would be useful in my case?

Upload a file module is used when you need to use assistant to answer your questions. Assistants are used to adapt a specific persona and trained with every upload of same kind. If this is your case, then you should use that.

Don’t all Assistants answer one’s questions? Whether it is to extract, summarize or define something it always a question. Is it just best practice to always add an Upload a File module before using Assistants or can you directly move file data from OneDrive to Assistants? Would the Assistants be better to read and look into the documents and perhaps images within those documents and follow its instructions better with an Upload a File module beforehand?

You can upload the file to GPT and can use it anytime for assistants. No need to upload everytime. And assistants can read the files and large data cannot be read directly in GPT so we prefer uploading files.
