I want to go on record here with something I believe doesn’t happen only to me: The deadlines for community challenges are very, very short!
I’ve been working with Make.com daily for 2 years, but I can’t participate because I’m always in the middle of other projects with weeks/months of planning, and so I end up not being able to fit the challenge criteria.
What is the problem & what have you tried?
If the goal is to attract new creators, you’re doing it right. But if the goal is to engage the community as a whole, you’re doing it wrong—those who use Make.com professionally will hardly have time to fit developing something into their routine in such a short time.
Jan 20: Challenge APPLICATIONS OPEN & Kick-Off Webinar
Feb 3 (EOD): Submissions CLOSE
Feb 11: Finalists Announced
Feb 18: Grand Winner Announced
That gives you TWO weeks to build out your submission. To some, that might be fast, but Make is a fast development platform. With your experience, I trust you can set up a great contender in two weeks. Trust me that we do not pick a winner based on how elaborate a Make scenario is. You can build a winner in a few hours. A challenge is a way of showing your skills using the Make platform.
Another reason for the ‘tight’ deadlines is that there are a lot of challenges throughout the year, if you miss this one, you can sign up for the next one.
Thank you so much for your feedback. We genuinely really appreciate honest feedback from you guys – after all, these challenges are for you, so the more feedback we get from you, the better we can make the experience for everyone.
Whilst @Henk-Operative is right about the reasoning behind the way things are run now, I have made a note of your comment either way, and we will absolutely take a look at the point you raised internally.
Thank you. I would really like to fit the criteria of one of the challenges into my project timeline with a real project… It would be doubly fun and challenging. But since I already work 10 to 12 hours a day, I really can’t allocate more time to a parallel development just for the challenge. I sincerely hope I can have an opportunity in the future.
