Why is ChatGPT so painfully unhelpful on how to use Make to build automations?

:bullseye: What is your goal?

Find out how to brief ChatGPT / which AI to use to help me with Make.

 What is the problem?

Hi all,
I’ve just gotten into Make and started building my first few scenarios with a lot of “help” from ChatGPT. Meanwhile, I’m working through the Make Academy and am currently at Intermediate. The more I learn there, the more I realize that the stuff ChatGPT tells me is more often bs than true.

:test_tube: What have you tried so far?

I am working from a paid Plus-Account within a project where I have given instructions to only work with functions that Make verifiably has, to admit when ChatGPT isn’t clear on whether something is possible in Make or not, never to hallucinate and have provided links to various Make sites. Anyone know what to brief ChatGPT to stop this, or which other AI to use? Or will no AI be able to reliably help me because they can’t read the contents of the Make Academy for example?

Hi Denise,

Thanks for your question

Be careful with using AI – you’re absolutely right, it very confidently hallucinates all kinds of Make “tips” that actually turn out to be completely incorrect. But they sound very confident. The Academy is for sure the best way to learn your way around Make. And the Community is always here to help you with specific issues you might encounter.

People who are badly informed by AI post here daily. Here is my two cents:

The pain of learning is always worth it. Doing it yourself instills knowledge in your brain and builds real experience. This is far more valuable than depending on an LLM. This sets you apart as an expert. The AI shortcut in learning never leads to true knowledge.

So while the Make academy might become hard, it is better to challenge yourself. This all might sound motivational, but don’t lower your standards to a crappy AI that anyone already has access to.

Cheers,
Henk

The main reason is simply, models used by ChatGPT (and other AI LLMs), are not trained on Make’s documentation. Why is training required? Because LLMs work by using clever statistics. You can try using the bot found in this topic as it has some knowledge about Make.

I’m sure others will agree that a native Make AI scenario assistant would be nice to have too!

If this is important to you, please submit this suggestion to the Idea exchange, under Platform Ideas and Improvements. However, do search for similar requests first (to upvote), just in case it has already been suggested to avoid duplicates.

I’d recommend going through the Make Academy if you haven’t yet!

Here are some useful links and guides you can use to learn more on how to use the Make platform, apps, and app modules. I found these useful when I was learning Make, and hope they might benefit you too —

Thank you! There are two, but haven’t received much attention at all: https://www.make.com/en/platform-ideas/p/scenario-builder-ai-assistant and https://www.make.com/en/platform-ideas/p/create-an-ai-analyzing-your-scenario-and-giving-optimizations-to-save-on-operati

Yes, that would be Maia. Coming later this year.

It’s not exactly easy to create an AI to assist with a niche product.
