Hey Alex, you can do this with just 2 modules, no ChatGPT needed:
Telegram Bot > Watch Updates (trigger). Connect it with your bot token from BotFather. It fires every time someone sends a message to your bot.
Telegram Bot > Send a Text Message or a Reply.
Chat ID: map “Message > Chat > ID” from the trigger
Text: something like “Thanks for your message! You can find everything here: https://yourwebsite.com”
Turn the scenario on and set it to run immediately, so the reply goes out right away.
Two small tips:
If you only want to reply to the first message (not every message), add a Data Store to save the chat IDs you already answered, and a filter before step 2 that checks the ID isn’t in it yet.
Add a filter “Message > Text does not exist” if you want to skip stickers or photos.
Later, if you want smarter replies, you can put an OpenAI module between 1 and 2 to answer questions and still add your link at the end.
That error means the reply is being sent to a bot instead of to a person, so Telegram blocks it. Usually one of these:
Check the Chat ID in the second module. It should be mapped to Message > Chat > ID from the trigger. If it’s mapped to the bot’s own ID, or to a fixed number, you get exactly this error.
Test from your personal Telegram account. Open a chat with your bot, press Start, then send it a normal message while the scenario is running. If the message comes from another bot (or from the bot itself), Telegram refuses to reply.
Add a filter between the two modules: Message > From > Is Bot = false. That way the scenario ignores anything sent by bots and never loops on its own replies.
Then click Run once, send “hi” to your bot from your phone, and it should answer with your link.
why it says : Enter the unique identifier for the target chat or username of the target channel (in the format @channelusername, or @supergroupusername).
I enter my bot @magicalex21bot
Open a chat with your bot, press Start, then send it a normal message while the scenario is running. If the message comes from another bot (or from the bot itself), Telegram refuses to reply.
I open my bot @magicalex21bot, I don’t see Start?
Then click Run once, send “hi” to your bot from your phone, and it should answer with your link.
I click Run, then send “Hi” Ididn’t get any link
Thanks for your help
Hi Alex, found it: the problem is the Chat ID field. Don’t type your bot’s name there, otherwise the bot tries to reply to itself and Telegram blocks it. That field has to be the ID of the person who wrote to the bot, and Make fills it in for you:
In the Send a Text Message module, delete @magicalex21bot from Chat ID.
Right-click the first module (Watch Updates) → Run this module only. Then send “hi” to your bot from your phone. The module gets a small bubble with the message it received.
Open the Send a Text Message module again and click inside Chat ID. A panel opens with the data from the first module. Click Message → Chat → ID. A small purple tag appears in the field: that’s the right value.
Click Run once and send “hi” again from your phone. You should get your link.
About the Start button: it only shows the very first time you open a chat with a bot. If you already wrote to it before, you won’t see it again, and that’s fine. Just send a normal message.
If it still doesn’t reply, click the bubble on each module after the run and tell us what you see on the second one.
Where to send “hi” from: from your own personal Telegram account (the Telegram app on your phone, logged in as you). Search for @magicalex21bot, open the chat with it, and send “hi” there, like you would message a friend. Not from inside the bot.
The Chat ID field: you picked “Message ID”, which is the number of the message, not of the conversation. That’s why Telegram says “chat not found”. Delete it, click inside Chat ID again, and in the panel open Message → Chat (a small arrow next to it) → then click ID. The tag should read “Message: Chat: ID”, not “Message ID”.
Then click Run once, send “hi” from your phone, and you should get the reply with your link.
Hi Alex, I think the confusion is that you are sending the message from the bot account itself. You need to open Telegram using your personal account, search for your bot (@magicalex21bot), open its chat, and send “Hi” to it there.
A Telegram bot cannot initiate a conversation with itself. Also, make sure the Make scenario is running with “Run once” before you send the message, so the Watch Updates module can capture it.
If it still does not work, please share a screenshot of your Telegram chat and the output of the Watch Updates module after you send the message. That should help us identify exactly where it is getting stuck.
