What is this discussion about in one brief sentence?

Hi Make Community,

I am trying to connect my Shopify store to Make.com using a Custom App. However, it seems Shopify has updated their Developer Dashboard.

When I create and install the custom app, it no longer gives me a permanent “Admin API access token” (like shpat_...) directly in the UI. Instead, it only provides a Client ID and Client Secret. According to Shopify’s new flow, I have to make a POST request (grant_type=client_credentials) to generate a token, but this token expires in 24 hours.

My question is: How do I configure the Shopify module in Make.com to handle this?

The standard “Shopify (API key)” connection requires a permanent token. Since my generated token expires every 24 hours, how can I set this up so Make automatically authenticates or refreshes the token using my Client ID and Secret? Is there a specific connection type or workaround I should use?

Any help or step-by-step guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

Hi Imran,

I saw your post regarding the Shopify authentication issue.

I’ve worked on Shopify integrations, OAuth flows, custom API connections, HTTP requests, webhooks, and Make.com automation projects. From what you’ve described, it sounds like Shopify’s newer authentication process may require a custom token generation and refresh mechanism within the workflow.

I’d be happy to review your scenario, identify the root cause, and help implement a reliable solution.

Hello,

What exactly are you trying to achieve?

In almost any case, I’d strongly suggest using the native Make.com Shopify app and the Shopify Make an API Call module with GraphQL as REST is being deprecated.

Just remember to set up correct scopes under Advanced settings while establishing connection.

Have a nice day,
Michal

Hi! I’m Misha, an automation and LLM integration expert. It sounds like you’re stuck between Shopify’s new authentication flow and Make.com’s expectation of a permanent Admin API token. I can help by implementing the correct OAuth/token management workflow, including automatic token generation and refresh inside Make, or by configuring a more reliable Shopify API integration that avoids daily token expiration issues altogether. This ensures your Shopify automations run continuously without manual intervention, authentication failures, or broken scenarios, giving you a stable production-ready connection that just works.
