Custom Roles: Invite more teams, give each the role access their work calls for
Hey Makers ![]()
Automation rarely stays in one team. It starts with IT, then HR wants approval flows, finance wants reconciliation, support wants ticket routing. Until now, every one of those requests came down to the same choice: hand out extensive access rights, or leave people out.
Now with Custom Roles, org admins and org owners on the Enterprise plan can define roles with exactly the permissions the work requires and assign them at the organization or team level.
Give teams just the right amount of access to Make. Name a role, and toggle permissions until the set matches the job. Someone who needs to view and run scenarios but never edit them gets precisely that. No over-permissioning to unblock one team.
Maintain full visibility. Every role carries a name and a description, so you can see what it does before you assign it. Every creation, update, deletion, and assignment lands in the audit log. Access control you can actually see.
Scale automation across the organization. Open Make up to operations, finance, and support with boundaries everyone understands, and keep one consistent access model across the org.
How to get started
-
Create a custom role by using one of the pre-defined roles as a template or create a new role from scratch. Give it a name and set permissions.
-
Assign roles at the organization level or team level. Keep company-wide standards in place while giving each team the control that fits how they work.
-
Edit, duplicate, or delete roles as your org changes. Update access as new teams, new owners, and new processes come online.
-
Track role creation, updates, deletions, and assignments in the Audit Log table. Security and compliance teams get a clear record of who changed what and when.
Put it to work
-
Set cleaner boundaries between departments. Let regional operations leads work inside their own team space while the org keeps one consistent access model.
-
Move faster during security reviews. Show auditors and internal stakeholders role names, permission details, and audit log history without piecing the story together from side notes.
Availability
Custom Roles and new Audit Log events are available now to Org Admins and Org Owners on the Enterprise plan.
