Google Sheets Watch New Rows output is not available for mapping in a newly added Update a Cell module

:bullseye: What is your goal?

I want to create a simple 5S audit automation where a Google Form submission is captured by Google Sheets and Make.com automatically transfers the audit scores and observations/comments to the corresponding cells in an AUDIT RESULT sheet.

The first Make module is Google Sheets – Watch New Rows, connected to the Form Responses 1 sheet.

The next module is Google Sheets – Update a Cell. Different scores from the Form response need to be written to different cells in the AUDIT RESULT sheet.

For example:
Form Response column I score → AUDIT RESULT C13
Form Response column K score → AUDIT RESULT C14
Form Response column M score → AUDIT RESULT C15
Form Response column O score → AUDIT RESULT C16
Form Response column Q score → AUDIT RESULT C17

I want to know the correct Make.com configuration for this workflow and, if there is a simpler standard approach, what you recommend.

 What is the problem & what have you tried?

The Google Sheets – Watch New Rows module is successfully receiving the Google Form response.

For example, its output contains the following fields:

  • Timestamp (A)
  • Zone Name (B)
  • Zone No (C)
  • For the Month (D)
  • Zone Leader (E)
  • Auditor (F)
  • Planned Audit Date (G)
  • Actual Audit Date (H)
  • Floor Area Clear From All Tools And Spare Parts & Materials (I)
  • Observation / Comment (J)
  • Filing & Housekeeping of Work Space (K)
  • Observation / Comment (L)
  • Work in Process Organised in Order to Eliminate / Reduce the Travel Time (M)
  • Observation / Comment (N)
  • Accessibility to Work Requirements (O)
  • Observation / Comment (P)
  • All Waste Materials in the Correct Skips (Q)
  • Observation / Comment (R)

We successfully tested one Google Sheets – Update a Cell module:
Cell = C15
Value = the score from Form Response column M

This worked correctly. When the Form response contained M3 = 4, AUDIT RESULT C15 changed from 3 to 4.

The problem occurs when we create or duplicate another Update a Cell module.

For example, we create:
Cell = C16

We want to map the score from Form Response column O (Accessibility to Work Requirements).

However, when we click the Value field, the mapping panel is empty and the fields from Watch New Rows are not available for selection.

We have already tried:

  1. Running Watch New Rows.
  2. Choosing an existing response under “Choose where to start”.
  3. Refreshing the Google Sheets form/module.
  4. Duplicating the working Update a Cell module.
  5. Creating another Update a Cell module.

The Watch New Rows output itself clearly contains the required O field, but the newly created Update a Cell module does not show those fields in the mapping panel.

We want to understand why this happens and the correct way to make the Watch New Rows output available for mapping in subsequent modules.

We also want to avoid repeatedly running the scenario simply to make the mapping fields appear, because this is a demo/pilot and we want to configure it correctly before doing the final end-to-end test.

:clipboard: Error messages or input/output bundles

There is no explicit error message in the current C16 module.

The issue is that the Value mapping panel is empty in the newly created Google Sheets – Update a Cell module.

A successful previous test was:

Watch New Rows → Update a Cell
Cell: C15
Value: Form Response column M score
Result: C15 changed from 3 to 4.

In the new module:

Cell: C16
Required Value: Form Response column O score

But the Value mapping panel does not display the Watch New Rows output fields.

Hey Sekar,

just to clarify something, AUDIT RESULT is a different sheet inside the same spreadsheet or a different spreadsheet altogether?

It is in the same spreadsheet

Don’t use Make for this. There are formulas to sync cells from one sheet to another.

If one Update a Cell maps fine and a newly added twin shows an empty Value panel, Make usually has not refreshed the upstream schema for that new module yet. Formulas can still sync the cells, but the mapping UI fix is usually this:

  1. Right-click Watch New Rows → Run this module only (or Run once with Choose where to start on a real Form Responses row). Leave that output bubble open.
  2. Do not duplicate the working Update a Cell. Add a fresh Update a Cell, then open Value and expand the Watch New Rows module in the mapper (not “empty search”).
  3. If the panel is still blank, type the pill via the formula bar using the module number from the successful run, e.g. map Value to the same field path you used for column M, then swap to column O.
  4. For many fixed cells on the same AUDIT RESULT sheet, one Array aggregator + fewer Update modules (or Update a Row if the target layout allows it) is less brittle than six separate Update a Cell modules.

Same spreadsheet vs different spreadsheet does not cause an empty mapper by itself. Empty mapper almost always means the new module never saw a live Watch New Rows output.
