I don’t think the * needs to be escaped. Remove it from the replace() function and see if that works.
The ( and ) does not need to be escaped as well. Remove those as well
The * and () are part of the text. If you want to remove them just do a replace() function and replace the characters with emptystring.

No, LinkedIn simply does not support formatting Markups.
