I need help looking for work and how to earn clients

First off, hello this is my first time here and my first post so, my question for anyone that would kindly answer is how would you go about finding clients? I learned a lot from Make Academy earning up to a intermediate certificate and practicing automations on my own or understanding automations from youtube videos. I feel I have enough skills to earn some real money doing automations and I wonder where should I look to. I will say this I am currently on Upwork and have tried for about 3 months but still haven’t earn my first client yet. I’m constantly updating my portofilo and trying to apply for jobs that I know I can do but again I haven’t earn my first clients yet. So I’m just curious and trying to learn how to go about this.

How about you define the best project you built on your own?

Sure, I recently created an automation for school teachers to help them transfer their student grades (This particular automation uses Google Sheets as the database) into individual reports cards by creating a Google Docs for them. First I created a button on Google app script that will be used for Google Sheets containing their students grades and information.

Once this button is clicked it will triggered a webhook back on Make.com that will search their Google Sheets for every student and also it is filtered based on if that student report card was already generated. It will bring that information back on Make.com then using the iterator module it will split every student into their own Google docs so automatically saved on the teacher computer for future purposes.

Lastly, Google Sheets is updates every row that states that student report card has been generated so duplication won’t occur

This is absolutely terrific. Have they used the system yet? Fallen into any error conditions you haven’t taken care of yet? The real usefulness of a scenario is one that stands the test of time by the users. You won’t believe what can happen when it’s used for a few months or years.

Actually, I saw a job post on Upwork that needed this automation I built it and created a Loom video in hopes of them seeing this automation and hopefully getting hired to do it for their system. Haven’t heard anything back from them.

I recommend you read my post on monetizing automation. It is an art and a science.

Oh wow, that’s very advanced I’m hoping to get close to that level but good stuff.

Heyy @Chris_Founchious Welcome to the community!

The best to start and build amazing automation is to learn with Make Academy, try templates, read blogs read upwork job listing for ideas and learning.

Once you build something like the one you shared above, try and build automation to scrape and find similar niche leads and send that loom video to all of those, this way you can get more attention and may be work too.

Once done, Be hopeful and consistent on what you do. Repeat the process, share on YouTube, reddit social media. Write blogs.

If upwork doesn’t work, try fiverr and other job posting or freelancer platforms too. Take inspiration on intermediate to Pro automation experts Profile, keywords they use and more. Initially it can be hard to get the first client. But that wont the case forever, so keep trying and learning.

I wish you the best in the journey!

Best,
@Prem_Patel
