My automation keep emailing the same emails the same thing

So Goal: searches for all with specific status’s and ‘records’ field ‘Does not contain’ “HTML Sent”.

sends email, and changes the ‘records’ field to “HTML Sent”.

That should end the cycle! SHouldn’t it?

But I have had that same email, repetitively sending to the same emails, even though they have “HTML Sent” in the ‘records’ field. Very frustrating.

I even added a filter after the first module to ensure they wouldn’t get through. But they are. How can I fix this? Any help appreciated to help me understand what I have done wrong.

Summer

Hi @summer1

  1. Please share the JSON output of the Search Objects module.
  2. This filter is not working because you’re filtering an array of records, not a specific record.

Hey there,
How are you?
Thanks for your help, I have set up another scenario in a similar fashion, and haven’t had this problem. I am not a professional by any means though so I understand I am at fault. I appreciate your advice.

Welcome to the Make community!

The above is not valid JSON. You can verify this by copy-pasting into jsonformatter.org

Could you please try providing the output bundle again with the following instructions?

1. This forum might have or already changed your text

When pasting text into this forum, you should format the example text using the rich-text editor, otherwise the forum software might modify the displayed text, and you might get incorrect answers from others because of it.

Some things this forum software might do to mangle your text:

– remove extra spaces (which may be necessary)
– convert links to titles (when copied is incorrect)
– incorrect joined links
– convert single and double quotes to smart angled quotes (“ ”)
– emojis
– etc.

This interferes with you receiving correct answers, because it:

– makes JSON invalid (you can check by copy-pasting into jsonformatter.org)
– makes incorrect text examples when we need to build a pattern for text parsing

2. To prevent this in future, please format text in code blocks

These are the two ways to format text so that it won’t be modified by the forum:

  • Method 1: Type code block manually

    Add three backticks ``` before and after the content/bundle, like this:

    ```
    content goes here
    ```

  • Method 2. Highlight and click the format button in the editor

3. You might need to re-copy the original text

Once the post has been submitted, it’s too late to format it since it’s already butchered, and you need to make a re-copy of the text, and format it before submitting the forum post.

Please let us know once you have corrected the issue. This will avoid others potentially providing wrong answers based on incorrect text in your question.

Thank you!

Hope this helps! Let me know if there are any further questions or issues.

@samliew

P.S.: Investing some effort into the Make Academy will save you lots of time and frustration using Make.

Hi @summer1

In a Search Objects module, you filter the objects by the role field.

If you want to implement the same logic for a Make filter, you should get the value of the Role field first. The filter’s text operator can be Not equal to or Doesn’t contain.

Here is a function that you can copy/paste to your Make scenario. Just replace the Role array with the Role array from the Search Objects module.
{{first(map(17.properties_value.Role; “name”))}}

OH MY GOODNESS! that was a mistake! I was meant to filter by Records (Rich Text) not Role! I had the filter set up with some as role and some as records. Do you think my scenario should work if I change that field from role to records? That should resolve the problem I had right?

it makes sense then, that it was sending the same emails to the same people, because the “HTML Sent” status was being put in the records field at the end of the scenario, and I had mistakenly specified the ‘role’ field from me CRM which naturally, didn’t have “HTML Sent”.
but if I had ‘record’ there, it would of caught it and stopped it.

That logic makes sense right?

thank you for pointing that out.

Hi @summer1

Yes, updating the filter field from role to records should do the trick.
